Nothing says "winter," "festive," or "adulting" like a mug of warm mulled wine. And if you're like most of the United States this week, you've been battling subarctic temperatures and could probably use something to warm your body and soul. It's easy to whip up mulled wine at home, so leave those prepackaged kits behind and let's get going!
Ingredients:
- 2 bottles of apple cider
- 2 bottles of red wine, like Cabernet Sauvignon (or those dusty bottles of random red that have been in your pantry forever. We won't judge...)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 orange, zested and juiced
- 1 orange, sliced for garnish
- 8 whole cloves
- 3 star anise, (or maybe just a sprinkle of nutmeg because who in the heck knows where to find star anise anyway?)
Combine ingredients in a giant saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to low heat and let simmer for 10 minutes or until you decide it's time to drink. Pour into mugs, garnish with those oranges, sip and repeat.
