Chardonnay Food Pairings

Chardonnay Food Pairings

It's the classic "If you give a mouse a cookie" scenario: Now that you've got your glass of Chardonnay, you're going to want a snack to go with it. Since you know (almost) everything there is to know about Chardonnay, we're here to help with your menu planning!

While you'll need to take your Chard's exact profile into account (i.e. oaked vs. unoaked), in general, Chardonnay pairs well with cheese (duh) and lighter dishes. Here are some general guidelines for you!

Chardonnay Pairings:

  • Cheese: You can't go wrong with a classic wine & cheese pairing. Or heck - why not double down and go for a wine and pizza pairing! Try one of these delicious cheeses (with or without the pizza):

    • Cheddar

    • Emmentaler

    • Gruyere

    • Brie

  • Seafood: A chilled, buttery Chardonnay practically screams out for seafood pairing. Why not try:

    • Shellfish

    • Oysters

  • Eggs Benedict: Chardonnay for breakfast! Why not?

  • Chicken: Mmm. The original white meat.

Chardonnay Not-So-Great Pairings

Chardonnay probably doesn't play so well with anything too spicy or acidic, so you may want to avoid these dishes. (But honestly, do yo' thang, gf. We're here to encourage you to drink wine, not to judge you!)

  • Chinese food

  • Thai food

  • Tomato-based dishes
