NC Wine Bloggers Summit: An Ode to Blogging
When we started Wine Mouths, our sole focus was blogging. Specifically, documenting our winery experiences both for ourselves and others. We loved wine and the people we met and wanted to share their stories. A blog seemed like a no-brainer. Although we've been at it for nearly 8 years, it took us a long time to work up the courage to think of ourselves as wine bloggers, and even longer to work up the courage to introduce ourselves as such. There have been several pivotal moments in Wine Mouth history that have emboldened us (more on those in a future post), and one of the most recent happened one weekend in March.
On March 24th, we had the opportunity to attend the very first NC Wine Bloggers Summit at Hanover Park Vineyard. The event was organized by the NC Wine Guys and attended by several wine bloggers, North Carolina wineries, and industry leaders. It was a full day of education, discussion, and networking. First, the Wine Guys shared some information about social media and blogging, as well as a crash course on describing a wine tasting. The wineries in attendance brought wine to share, so over lunch we got to sample their wine and hear a little about each from the winemakers. After lunch, we had a passionate panel discussion about what wineries could do for bloggers and vice-versa. It felt like a group therapy session about the wine industry - in a good way! It was great to hear from other bloggers as well as from the wineries. We left with a lot of ideas and a lot of wineries we want to visit (and revisit).
The mission of Wine Mouths is to share stories - about wine, wineries, our lives and adventures. We want to educate and provide context on wine and share what we've learned along the way. A wine blog doesn't have to be just about wine. Just like you can enjoy a nice glass of wine on its own, it's even better when shared with friends or a delicious meal or experience - or all of the above! We're not just focused on wine and we're not just focused on blogging - it's about the whole experience and telling the whole story.
We'll be talking more about the NC wineries and wine from the summit in our next post, so stay tuned! In the meantime, please support our fellow bloggers: Triangle Around Town, Wine Carolinas, The Virginia Grape, and NC Wine Guys.
There is so much happening in the state of NC Wine and we are so glad to be a part of it!
