Italian Wine in a Nutshell

Italian Wine in a Nutshell

So we have now had TWO classes on Italian wine and we have become obsessed. We thought we would give you a few reasons to love Italian wine. Did we mention there are some great places producing Italian varietals in North Carolina? Go check out Grove Winery, Piccione Vineyards, and Raffaldini!

1.  There are 350 official Italian wine varieties and these are done in a variety of styles. Craving a red sparkling wine? Italy has you covered!  It would take yearssssss to drink your way through all the Italian wine out there, and boy do we love challenges.

2. Venice is my favorite Italian city and I got to live there for 4 months as a college student. It is actually the first time I had ever had real wine. So guys, Italy is to blame! You might as well start off strong! (And the Veneto is one of the top three wine regions in Italy.)

3. Sangiovese and Montepulciano! These are amazing red wines that you can have produced in North Carolina or Italy. Think Chianti or Montepulciano D'Abruzzo. Yummy!

4. Italy has a wine region named "suave", or Soave in Italian. Besides having a cool name, it is a delicious white wine that has aromas of peach, honeydew melon, and saline. Go check one out and impress your friends by knowing it is made with the grape Garganega. You can also get a high quality bottle for $10, need I say more?

Cheers to Italy and the lovely wine they produce!
